Five Destination Options

The Brief

A milestone birthday by the Mediterranean — warm, celebratory, and shared with the people who matter.

A 40th birthday celebration falling on Friday, 14 May 2027, envisioned as four nights and five days by the sea.

The celebration will bring together approximately 40–50 guests, travelling predominantly from Lagos. The destination should offer a genuinely multigenerational experience, with accommodation and activities suited to both adults and 2 infants. Adults-only properties are not suitable.

Ease of travel and movement is equally important, with straightforward access from Lagos and minimal logistical complexity being key considerations alongside the beauty, quality and overall appeal of the destination.

The occasion
40th birthday
Dates
12 — 16 May 2027, four nights
Departure
Lagos (LOS), approx. 40–50 guests
Guest budget
~$3,000 per person

The guest budget covers

  • Return economy flights from Lagos to the chosen destination, ticketed through a third-party partner agency
  • Accommodation, four nights, at approximately $250–$300 per room per night on double occupancy
  • All-inclusive or full-board dining throughout
  • Return airport transfers on arrival and departure

Consideration for activities and ground transportation during the stay to be covered by the celebrant. Flight ticketing is handled by a partner travel agency, and the visa process is not managed by The Keona Experience.

A note on this proposal

This document is designed as a first glimpse rather than a finished itinerary. Specific hotels, negotiated rates and detailed day-by-day planning have intentionally been left for the curation phase — the stage at which, once our services are secured, we begin the detailed work of hotel sourcing, group contracting and itinerary design.

What follows is the essence of five possible celebrations. Choose the destination that feels right, and we will take it from there — curating every property, experience and detail around you, from the first arrival to the final farewell.

01

Greece

Crete

The Mediterranean Classic

Whitewashed villages, warm May seas and the enduring glamour of the Greek islands

Crete, Greece — Whitewashed villages, warm May seas and the enduring glamour of the Greek islands

Crete is the Mediterranean everyone pictures: olive terraces falling into impossibly blue water, long lunches that drift into evening, and a hospitality culture that is genuinely warm rather than merely polished. It is large enough to hold a party of fifty comfortably, and gentle enough that every generation in the group experiences the same day with equal ease.

Airport
Heraklion (HER) or Chania (CHQ)
Visa
Schengen — appointment required
Mid-May
24 – 27°C, sea swimmable
Character
Classic, unhurried, beautiful

Signature experiences

  • A private sunset catamaran flotilla along the north coast, with the birthday dinner served on board
  • A long Cretan table lunch in a hillside village — mezze, raki, live lyra music, family style
  • Olive oil and wine estate tasting with a private chef's table for the celebration dinner
  • A gentle morning at Elafonissi or Balos, with shaded cabanas arranged for the elders and the little ones
  • Knossos and the old Venetian harbour of Chania with a private historian, at an easy pace
  • Spa afternoon and beach club takeover on the recovery day

Visas

Nigerian passport holders

  • Greece is a Schengen state. Nigerian passport holders require a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C) — this is not an e-visa.
  • Applications are submitted in person through the Greek visa application centre in Lagos or Abuja, with biometrics captured at the appointment.
  • Appointment availability tightens sharply for May travel, so applications should be opened at least twelve to sixteen weeks ahead. Visa applications are made by guests directly and are not handled by The Keona Experience.
  • Guests already holding a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa may travel on it, subject to validity at the time of entry.

Flights & climate

  • Lagos (LOS) → Istanbul (IST) → Heraklion (HER) with Turkish Airlines — the most reliable single-alliance routing, roughly 11–13 hours in total including the connection.
  • Alternatives: Lagos → Athens via Cairo (EgyptAir) or Doha (Qatar Airways), then a 55-minute domestic hop to Heraklion or Chania.
  • For a group of this size a held block on one routing is ideal so that guests arrive together; flight ticketing is arranged through a third-party partner agency.

Mid-May

Mid-May sits at 24–27°C by day and cools pleasantly at night. The sea is warm enough to swim, the light is soft and long, and the island is still ahead of the high-summer crowds.

02

Cyprus

Limassol

The Effortless Mediterranean

Beachfront resort living, a lively seafront and the shortest journey of the five

Limassol, Cyprus — Beachfront resort living, a lively seafront and the shortest journey of the five

Limassol is the easy answer — and for good reason. A stretch of polished, sea-facing resorts lies within approximately forty minutes of the airport, allowing the entire celebration to revolve around one seamless transfer, one exceptional hotel and one beautifully connected base. For a group of fifty, that simplicity matters. The atmosphere is polished and sociable, with a quiet sense of luxury, while the seafront provides a natural backdrop for the celebration to unfold — and spill effortlessly beyond the hotel.

Airport
Larnaca (LCA) or Paphos (PFO)
Visa
Cyprus national visa or Schengen holder entry
Mid-May
26 – 29°C, sea 22°C
Character
Polished, sociable, effortless

Signature experiences

  • A birthday dinner on a private beach terrace, tables in the sand, with a live band and fireworks over the water
  • Yacht charters from Limassol Marina for a sunset cruise along the Akrotiri coast
  • Commandaria wine tasting in the Troodos foothills, followed by a village taverna lunch
  • Ancient Kourion and Aphrodite's Rock with a private guide — short, shaded, easy for all ages
  • Marina brunch and boutique afternoon, with the seafront promenade for evening strolling
  • Resort spa day, water sports for the younger guests, and a poolside welcome cocktail

Visas

Nigerian passport holders

  • Cyprus is an EU member but not yet within the Schengen area, and issues its own national visa.
  • Nigerian passport holders apply through the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in Abuja, or its accredited application centre — submission is in person with biometrics.
  • Importantly, holders of a valid multiple-entry Schengen, UK or US visa (used at least once) may generally enter Cyprus without a separate Cypriot visa, which materially lightens the paperwork for a well-travelled guest list.

Flights & climate

  • Lagos (LOS) → Istanbul (IST) → Larnaca (LCA) with Turkish Airlines — approximately 10–12 hours in total, the shortest overall journey on this shortlist.
  • Alternatives: Lagos → Cairo → Larnaca (EgyptAir), or Lagos → Dubai/Doha → Larnaca for guests preferring Gulf carriers.
  • Larnaca to a Limassol beachfront resort is a comfortable 45-minute private coach transfer on excellent roads.

Mid-May

Mid-May in Limassol is reliably 26–29°C with virtually no rain and a sea already at swimming temperature — the most dependable weather of the five destinations.

03

Albania

The Riviera

The New Mediterranean

Emerald coves, cypress hillsides and the coastline Europe has only just discovered

The Riviera, Albania — Emerald coves, cypress hillsides and the coastline Europe has only just discovered

The Albanian Riviera — Dhërmi, Himarë, Vlorë and the Ionian coast down towards Saranda — offers the clearest water in this portfolio and the strongest value by some margin. It is the destination that will feel discovered rather than chosen, and for a 40th birthday there is real charm in a coastline nobody in the group has already photographed.

Airport
Tirana (TIA)
Visa
Visa-free for Schengen/UK/US visa holders
Mid-May
22 – 26°C, sea cooler
Character
Fresh, dramatic, discovered

Signature experiences

  • A private boat day through the Karaburun coves and Grama Bay, anchoring for a champagne lunch
  • Birthday dinner on a cliffside terrace above Dhërmi, with the whole coastline as the backdrop
  • Butrint UNESCO archaeological park and the Blue Eye spring, at an unhurried pace
  • Beach club takeover at Jale or Livadhi, with cabanas, DJ and shaded family seating
  • Berat or Gjirokastër — the Ottoman stone towns — as an optional cultural morning
  • Traditional Albanian long-table feast with raki, byrek and live folk music

Visas

Nigerian passport holders

  • Albania grants visa-free entry to holders of a valid, previously-used multiple-entry Schengen, UK or US visa — the single lightest entry route on this shortlist for well-travelled guests.
  • Guests without one apply for an Albanian visa through the e-Albania online portal, with a consular appointment where required.
  • Because Albania is outside Schengen, guests must still avoid Schengen transit points unless they hold a transit or Schengen visa — we would route the group through Istanbul for precisely this reason.
  • This is the destination where the greatest number of guests are likely to travel with no new visa application at all.

Flights & climate

  • Lagos (LOS) → Istanbul (IST) → Tirana (TIA) with Turkish Airlines — approximately 11–13 hours in total.
  • Alternatives via Rome, Vienna or Frankfurt are available, though European connections re-introduce a Schengen transit consideration.
  • Tirana to the Riviera is a scenic 3–4 hour private coach transfer; a Vlorë or Saranda base shortens the drive and we would build a comfort stop into the journey.

Mid-May

Mid-May brings 22–26°C, bright and dry, with sea temperatures around 20°C — refreshing rather than balmy. The hillsides are green and in flower, which is when the Riviera looks its very best.

04

Türkiye

Bodrum

The Glamorous Mediterranean

Bougainvillea, superyachts and the most confident resort scene on the Aegean

Bodrum, Türkiye — Bougainvillea, superyachts and the most confident resort scene on the Aegean

Bodrum is the glamorous choice. The peninsula holds an extraordinary concentration of internationally branded resorts, private beach clubs and dinner-until-late marina restaurants, all at prices that consistently outperform Greece for the same standard. If the brief is that the celebration should feel like an occasion from arrival to departure, Bodrum delivers it most reliably.

Airport
Bodrum Milas (BJV)
Visa
Consular visa; e-visa for Schengen/UK/US holders
Mid-May
25 – 28°C, sea warming
Character
Glamorous, energetic, polished

Signature experiences

  • A private gulet charter around the Bodrum peninsula — swimming stops, lunch on deck, sunset return to the marina
  • The birthday dinner at a beach club under bougainvillea, with fireworks over the bay
  • Bodrum Castle, the Museum of Underwater Archaeology and the old town bazaar with a private guide
  • Traditional hammam and spa afternoon at the resort for the elders
  • Yalıkavak Marina evening — dinner, shopping and the peninsula's most glamorous people-watching
  • Private chef's table dinner in a hillside village above Gümüşlük

Visas

Nigerian passport holders

  • Nigerian passport holders generally require a visa for Türkiye obtained through the Turkish consulate, with an in-person appointment and biometrics.
  • Guests holding a valid Schengen, UK, US or Irish visa or residence permit may typically qualify for the conditional Turkish e-visa, applied for entirely online in minutes.
  • As with Cyprus and Albania, the guest list naturally separates into e-visa eligible and consular applicants; both tracks should begin from around fourteen weeks out. The Keona Experience does not manage visa applications.
  • Turkish Airlines routing also allows transit without a separate visa, keeping the journey administratively simple.

Flights & climate

  • Lagos (LOS) → Istanbul (IST) with Turkish Airlines direct, then Istanbul → Bodrum (BJV) — approximately 9–11 hours in total, with the only direct long-haul sector on this shortlist.
  • The direct Lagos–Istanbul leg is a significant comfort advantage for the group as a whole.
  • Bodrum airport to the resort areas is a 30–50 minute private transfer depending on the bay.

Mid-May

Mid-May in Bodrum runs 25–28°C with long, bright days and a sea beginning to warm. The peninsula is fully open for the season but not yet at July intensity.

05

Portugal

The Algarve

The Golden Coast

Honey-coloured cliffs, hidden coves and Portugal's sunniest, most relaxed shoreline

The Algarve, Portugal — Honey-coloured cliffs, hidden coves and Portugal's sunniest, most relaxed shoreline

The Algarve is Europe's most quietly confident coastline: golden limestone cliffs sheltering cove after cove of clear Atlantic water, whitewashed towns, and a resort culture that is polished without ever feeling hurried. It is a destination that feels immediately warm and familiar to a large group — easy to move through, generous in hospitality, and genuinely beautiful at every turn.

Airport
Faro (FAO)
Visa
Schengen — appointment required
Mid-May
22 – 26°C, Atlantic cooler
Character
Relaxed, golden, welcoming

Signature experiences

  • A private boat day along the Benagil caves and the golden cliff coast, with swimming stops and lunch on board
  • The birthday dinner on a clifftop terrace above the Atlantic, with the coastline lit gold at sunset
  • A long Portuguese table lunch in a hilltop village — fresh fish, vinho verde, live guitar, family style
  • Golf, spa and pool days at the resort, with cabanas and shaded family areas arranged
  • Lagos old town and the Ponta da Piedade grottos with a private guide, at an easy pace
  • A sunset beach club takeover for the welcome evening or the recovery day

Visas

Nigerian passport holders

  • Portugal is a Schengen state. Nigerian passport holders require a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C) — this is not an e-visa.
  • Applications are submitted in person through the Portuguese visa application centre in Lagos or Abuja, with biometrics captured at the appointment.
  • As with Greece, appointment availability tightens sharply for May travel, so applications should be opened at least twelve to sixteen weeks ahead. Visa applications are made by guests directly and are not handled by The Keona Experience.
  • Guests already holding a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa may travel on it, subject to validity at the time of entry.

Flights & climate

  • Lagos (LOS) → Lisbon (LIS) → Faro (FAO), or Lagos → a European gateway such as London or Frankfurt and onward to Faro — approximately 12–15 hours in total including the connection.
  • Alternatives: Lagos → Casablanca → Lisbon with Royal Air Maroc, then a short onward hop or a scenic three-hour road transfer to the Algarve.
  • Faro airport to the main resort areas — Vilamoura, Quinta do Lago, Albufeira, Carvoeiro — is a comfortable 20–45 minute private transfer.

Mid-May

Mid-May in the Algarve brings 22–26°C, long bright days and very little rain. The Atlantic is refreshing rather than warm at around 18–19°C, though the cliff-sheltered coves and heated resort pools make this an easy trade.

The celebration night — dinner first, then the party.

The birthday itself belongs to the evening. The day is left open and unhurried, and the celebration begins at golden hour with a seated dinner by the sea before moving, without a pause, into a club-style party that runs as late as the room wants it to.

Dinner

  • Exclusive-use venue with a sea or terrace outlook
  • Table design, florals, linen, candlelight and stationery
  • Bespoke menu with wine pairing and a signature cocktail
  • Live acoustic, string performance or chosen playlist music during service, with entertainment

The party

  • Full stage, sound and intelligent lighting rig
  • DJ with an Afrobeats-led set, plus live sax or percussion
  • Dance floor, bottle service and a dedicated late bar
  • Cold-spark or fireworks moment at the peak of the night

The details

  • Photography and film across the whole evening
  • Dress code, invitations and a guest run-sheet
  • Coach transfers to and from the venue
  • Late-night food service and a smooth wind-down

Venue selection, production partners and final costings belong to the curation phase, which begins once our services are secured.
