  • May sea temperatures are the coolest on this list
  • All-inclusive is less established here than full board

  • The peninsula is spread out; excursions involve some driving between bays
  • Bodrum's energy is lively rather than serene, which is a matter of taste
  • Hotel rates are generally higher than the other four destinations, so the budget may need to stretch a little

  • No direct flight from Lagos; every routing carries at least one connection and the journey is the longest-feeling on this shortlist
  • The Schengen visa requires in-person appointments for the group, as with Crete
  • The Atlantic is cooler than the Mediterranean in mid-May — refreshing rather than balmy

Budget fit — Well matched to $250–$300 per room per night in mid-May, with strong full-board options and good flexibility for upgrades within that range.

Our recommendation

Bodrum for glamour and the easiest flight. Limassol for the simplest arrival.

If the celebration should feel like an event from the moment guests land, Türkiye's direct Lagos–Istanbul routing and its value for the standard of hotel make Bodrum the strongest all-round choice, though the budget may need to be stretched a little there. If absolute simplicity of arrival is the priority, Limassol's single short transfer and lighter visa position is hard to beat. Crete remains the classic, the Albanian Riviera the most striking and best value, and the Algarve the most golden and relaxed — but each carries a trade-off worth discussing before we commit.

Whichever direction is chosen, visa applications should be opened no later than fourteen weeks before departure. Visas are applied for by guests directly, and flight ticketing is handled by a third-party partner agency.
